  • Certol Donates to student run Berkeley Free Clinic Wed, 18 May 2011 09:45:00 -0700

Certol attended the California Dental Association (CDA) Art and Science of Dentistry Meeting last week in Anaheim California. We handed out over 300 samples to dentists from all over the state of California and spoke with hundreds of people about the importance of Infection Prevention in their offices.

We gave away all our samples by the end of the show, however, we did have some display products left at the end of the show. The products that were leftover, such as ProView plus pouches, ProPak tubing, ProLube RTU, Pro Barrier disposa chain, ProEZ foam, ProSpray wipes and ProTector needle sheath props, were donated to the Berkeley Free Clinic based in Berkeley CA. The Berkeley Free Clinic is a clinic providing free dental services to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured residents in the Bay Area. The donations made by Certol will go to help the clinic continue to provide free services to those in need, and also help to prevent the spread of disease.

The Neighborhood Services Division (Code Enforcement) in the City of Commerce City has been using Remover Magic Graffiti Remover for over three years. They use it on everything from concrete to vinyl fencing. In a recent email, David Younie of the Neighborhood Services Division wrote:

“I have found it to be the safest and most effective product available, and it’s made right in Commerce City. I have had other graffiti remover products sent to me and have not found anything that works as well or is as easy and safe to use, we love your product!!!!”

Certol recently donated Remover Magic Graffiti Remover to the Neighborhood Services Division, and it was given away at the quarterly Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Officers Training held in Blackhawk, Colorado. Over 80 people from agencies throughout Colorado and parts of Wyoming received the Remover Magic Graffiti Remover to try in their areas. The overall response is positive, and people in the state are using Remover Magic to clean up graffiti, playgrounds, stained concrete, and other public places.

  • Certol donates Powerhouse Super Hi-Foam Concentrate to Habilitat in Hawaii Mon, 18 Apr 2011 09:00:00 -0700

Certol donated a 55 gallon drum of Powerhouse Super Hi-Foam Concentrate to Habilitat, a long term substance abuse treatment program in Kaneohe, HI. They provide a safe haven from external pressures and offer residents a fresh start. Habilitat is a residential program built on the Therapeutic Community model and their approach is considered by experts to be one of the most effective methods of treatment for substance abuse and chemical addictions.

By donating Powerhouse Super Hi-Foam Concentrate, Certol has helped Habilitat raise money to continue with daily operations. Monthly car washes are held at local churches all over Oahu and the funds raised go to cover a range of expenses related to the residential treatment facility and vocational training programs.

Residents of the program wash and detail the cars with supervision from Habilitat’s Marketing Manager. The residents are taught skills such as leadership, resource management, delegation, prioritizing, multitasking, and teamwork while involved with Habilitat.

Certol’s donation allowed Habilitat to expand the car wash fundraiser and continue to provide quality vocational training to the residents. The program was in great need of resources and this contribution allows the car wash fundraiser to function for months to come.

  • Study Finds Bib Chains a Potential Source of Bacteria Fri, 08 Apr 2011 09:00:00 -0700

A recent study from the “University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Dentistry Oral Microbiology Laboratory found that dental bib clips may be potential sources of cross-contamination in a dental office.”

Bib chains and bib clips are a potential source of body soil contamination in dental offices across the U.S. Authors of the study commented that “A bib chain can ‘grab’ onto hair or accumulate patient’s sweat, make‐up, hair products, neck acne, dermatitis, etc in the crevices and inaccessible areas of the holder. Yet not many dental offices have taken steps to protect their patients.”

Dental Health Magazine reports that researchers sampled 50 bib clips from hygiene and dental operatories and one out of five bib clips were found to have a presence of significant microorganisms. “Of most concern were the pathogenic species found: pseudomonas, S. aureus and the enteric bacteria, E. coli. Microorganisms found on the bib clips in the UNC study were not just from skin but also from saliva and plaque.”

World Dental.org suggests a great way to avoid patient cross contamination is to use a disposable bib holder that can be discarded with the bib before every new patient. The ProBarrier™ disposa chain™ from Certol International is a disposable bib chain designed to replace metal bib chains and clips. By using a fresh ProBarrier disposa chain for each patient, the need to process bib chains is eliminated.

  • Shocking News: First Aid Day at Certol Tue, 05 Apr 2011 10:00:00 -0700
Shocking news from Certol: On the front lines for workplace safety, Certol employees learn when it is safe and appropriate to squeeze, hit and shock their co-workers to save a life!

Of course we are talking about the onsite American Red Cross First Aid and CPR course presented March 30th. The course required active participation and demonstration of the correct procedures to Check, Call and Care – the mantra for responding to emergencies. The course included the correct methods for treating airway obstructions (here is where the squeezing and hitting came in, otherwise known as the Heimlich maneuver), and the use of an AED device (automated external defibrillator) as part of overall CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

Nine of Certol’s employees completed this onsite workplace training offered by the American Red Cross. They learned how to properly administer CPR, and how to use the AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

Certol has also purchased a brand new AED, a device that automatically analyzes heart rhythms and advises the operator to deliver a potentially lifesaving shock if necessary.

The Red Cross First Aid training is a 2 year certification.
